Be still in the presence of the LORD,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.
Stop being angry!
Turn from your rage!
Do not lose your temper—
it only leads to harm.
The LORD says,
“I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and prayed,
“Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family,
that you have brought me this far?
“What more can I say to you?
You know what your servant is really like…
“How great you are, O Sovereign LORD!
There is no one like you.
We have never even heard of another God like you!
“And now, O LORD God, I am your servant;
do as you have promised concerning me and my family.
“And may your name be honored forever…
…you will restore me to life again
and lift me up from the depths of the earth.
Caiaphas, who was high priest at that time, said,
“You don’t know what you’re talking about!
You don’t realize that it’s better for you
that one man should die for the people
than for the whole nation to be destroyed.”
He did not say that on his own;
as high priest at that time he was led to prophesy
that Jesus would die for the entire nation.
And not only for that nation,
but to bring together and unite
all the children of God scattered around the world.
Jesus responded,
“Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory
if you believe?”
Jesus told her,
“I am the resurrection and the life.
Anyone who believes in me will live,
even after dying.
Everyone who lives in me
and believes in me
will never die.
Do you believe this…?

that there is a God in Israel!
And everyone assembled here will know
that the LORD rescues his people,
but not with sword and spear.
This is the LORD’s battle…
My sheep listen to my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.

for my Father has given them to me,
and he is more powerful than anyone else.
No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.
